Retrospecta

IMG_7067

The annual publication from the Yale School of Architecture. Designed with Daniel Harding. Our intent for this version of the publication was to create an accessible form that could hold the large amount of student work and dialogue. The book is laid out chronologically by student level. Color is used to clearly mark sections of student years and when a student’s voice is heard in dialogue. The architectural work is balanced with photographs of the school contributed by the students.

Broken

broken_shirt

This project has been an on-going series of experiments in which the basic shapes of the American flag are stripped of their identifying features and broken apart slightly. The shapes are then placed in different contexts to test what kind of meaning they can take on. Each part in the series has yielded an interesting number of responses from bar code to prison bars to a divided union.

GDMFA 08

YaleGDMFA

Installation of the work of the 17 graduating graphic design MFA students at the Yale School of Art. Together we designed the group exhibition to exist as one cohesive idea to represent the work of many. In this case the concept was that all of the work existed on one continuous roll of paper and mostly on the floor as opposed to existing on the walls as is traditionally done.

EXTRARCHITECTURAL

xarchLogo for architecture collaborative EXTRARCHITECTURAL. The concept behind the mark for is a structural abstraction of the positive and negative space created from the letter X and the letter A. This creates a container of sorts. The basic idea behind this is that EXTRARCHITECTURAL is a collaborative of different artists and designers working together at different times places, etc. EXTRARCHITECTURAL itself can be seen as a container that holds different types of people and projects at any given time, adaptable to multiple uses.

Carter + Boom

IMG_0002

Poster announcing a collaborative workshop given by Matthew Carter and Irma Boom. The poster is intended to represent both Carter and Boom’s work. The layering and colors are reference to Irma Boom’s book  designs and the formal play with letterforms are a reference to type design of Matthew Carter. In addition to the formal references the gradation represents the fact that the dates were constantly changing and ultimately the workshop never took place.

Designing Politics

32
Proposed poster for the International Design Forum Ulm 2008 edition. The IFG Ulm is an institution giving out annual stipends to projects connecting design and politics. By doing so, it attempts both to foster research and design in this field, as well as a greater awareness of the connection between both. The intent of this poster was to display multiple levels of politics within design, allow for different interpretations and express my personal design voice.
